Lorena Luccioni graduated in Architecture with Honours in Florence in 1984 with the highest possible marks. She concentrated on Urban Planning from 1985 to 1991 and followed this with teaching and research at the Faculty of Architecture in Florence. From 1993 to 2004 she collaborated with the Faculty of Architecture of Ascoli Piceno and from 1998 to 2003 was engaged as a lecturer to the Design Laboratory. In 1985 she started her professional career. She collaborated in Florence with the architect G. Balli, to whom she owes her first important opportunities to work on residential building projects on an urban scale: 176 apartments for the PEEP of Badia a Settimo in Scandicci (Florence) and 181 apartments in the new district of Le Piagge Centrali in Florence; both projects are signed as co-designer. In 1989 she won the competition to enlarge the Florence-Peretola Airport. In 1991 she opened her own studio which worked on public and private building projects and the planning of other public spaces. She participated in several different design competitions, including the new offices for the Province of Rimini, the new offices for Consorzio ZIPA in Jesi, the new Free University of Bolzano, the building for the Consiag Expo in Prato, and the new building for ITF of Macerata. She was invited to exhibit her projects and prototypes in various exhibitions: for a ‘Loft all’Italiana’ at the Salone del Mobile of Milan in 1984, for the ‘Casa Neoclettica’ in ‘Abitare il Tempo’, Verona, for Oliko with the Gil chair at the Salone del Mobile of Milan in 1994, for ‘Bagno Senza Confini’ with a reading bench with toilets at the Salone del Mobile of Milan in 1998, at Pesaro in the Fish Market for ‘Usi e Costumi’ and at Jesi for ‘Bagni dell’Adriatico’. She has been concerned with the morphology of the historic city and of its transformations in time, and was invited to hold conferences. In 2001 she wrote ‘The Origins of the Modern City’ for the Alinea publisher in Florence. Her architectural works and designs have been published in many magazines, including Modo, Spazio Casa, Edilizia Populare, Domus, Area, Controspazio, Panorama, Modulo, Interni Annual, Costruire in Laterizio, Ville e Casali and Il Bagno. She has also been included in books on the subject edited by Motta (Milan), Loft Publications (Barcelona) and Harper Collins Publishers (New York).
